The Five Tibetan Rites are a series of five exercises that have been practiced for hundreds of years. They come from Tibetan monks who believe these movements help people stay young, strong, and full of energy. The exercises are sometimes called “The Fountain of Youth” because they are thought to slow down aging and boost energy levels. I was introduced to this concept in 2019 while I was training for a marathon. This was my evening workout every day after work.
Anyone can learn these simple exercises, and with just a few minutes each day, you may notice a big difference in how you feel!
Instructions:
Each exercise, or “rite,” is done with a certain number of repetitions, starting with three and working up to a maximum of 21. Here’s a quick guide to each one:
Spinning: Stand up straight with your arms out to the sides and spin slowly clockwise. Start with three spins and work up to more as you get comfortable.
Leg Raises: Lie down on your back, arms by your sides. Lift your head and legs up towards the sky, then lower them back down. This strengthens your core and helps with flexibility.
Kneeling Backbend: Kneel on the floor with your hands on your lower back. Tilt your head back and open up your chest. This stretch improves your posture and relieves tension.
Tabletop Lift: Sit with your legs stretched out, hands on the floor beside your hips. Lift your body up until you’re in a tabletop position. This strengthens your arms, legs, and core.
Upward & Downward Dog: Start in a plank position. Raise your hips to form an upside-down “V” (Downward Dog), then bring your body down to an upward-facing position (Upward Dog). This move is great for stretching and flexibility.
Benefits:
Increases flexibility and balance, enhancing strength and coordination.
Boosts energy levels for better alertness and focus.
Promotes a youthful, relaxed feeling with regular practice.
Improves circulation, supporting overall wellness.
Strengthens the immune system to help you stay healthy.
